Tyson Fury Gives Up Belt After Announcing Retirement From Boxing

Tyson Fury has confirmed he is giving up his Ring magazine title following his retirement announcement.

Fury initially claimed he was retiring after his stoppage win over at Wembley in April but has since regularly flirted with a comeback. He has called out the winner of Anthony Joshua’s forthcoming rematch with Oleksandr Usyk and last week claimed to be close to agreeing a deal with Derek Chisora.

Fury has already twice fought and beaten his fellow countryman but had long claimed he would grant Chisora a third fight. But Fury then claimed negotiations had broken down before he insisted he was finally hanging up his gloves.

And The Ring magazine has now confirmed Fury will be vacating their title which recognises the best fighter in each weight division. Fury has yet to reveal whether he will give up his WBC world title, and the sanctioning body has yet to announce whether or not they will strip the giant Brit.

WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman said yesterday: “Just finished a touching video conference with Tyson Fury who has confirmed his official retirement boxing. We fully support his decision which is a dream anyone to retire undefeated and as WBC champion of the world. WBC boxing will prepare a special farewell event soon.”

As well as calling out his fellow heavyweight boxers, Fury has flirted with taking part in exhibition bouts against the likes of Thor Bjornsson and Mike Tyson . He even flew to Iceland last week to confront strongman Bjornsson to discover his rival was in Rome.

Fury then released his retirement statement, insisting: “Massive thanks to everyone who had an input in my career over the years and after long hard conversations I’ve finally decided to walk away and on my 34th birthday I say Bon Voyage.”

The newly-vacated Ring championship may now be on the line next weekend when Joshua attempts to win back his world titles Usyk in Saudi Arabia. The rivals first clashed last September when the Ukrainian dominated Joshua over 12 rounds to become a two-weight world champion.
