“The Govt. Should Pay Religious Leaders Salaries To Tackle Insecurity”- Imam Says

It’s no longer news that Insecurity has become a major crisis in Nigeria. Over the past few months, different attacks have been recorded across the nation. However, the activities of the bandits seem to be on the rise in different northern states. For this reason, many towns and villages have created local security networks.

Speaking on insecurity, the chairman of the committee of the FCT Imam initiative, Tajudeen Adigun, suggested that religious leaders should be involved in combating insecurity.

Tajudeen Adigun said this at the 19th conference of FCT Imam that was held at Abuja. Adigun said people listen to their religious leaders more than politicians.

Tajudeen said that the influence of religious leaders on their followers should not be belittled. Furthermore, he said it’s not too much if the government decides to pay salaries to religious leaders to tackle insecurity. He went on to stress that non-Muslim leaders are also included.

Tajudeen said, “However, politicians should not underrate the influence of imams. If the government decides to pay salaries to religious leaders to maintain peace, it is not too much”.
