Bandits invade Zamfara community, abduct students.

Not less than 73 students have been kidnapped in Zamfara state, by armed bandits who launched attack, at Government Day Secondary School, in Kaya, Maradun Local Government Area of the state. The students were kidnapped on Wednesday, September 1.

 

It was reported that the armed bandits, stormed the school environment around 11:22am, and took the students to unknown location. According to the statement released by the spokesperson of the state police command, Mohammed Shehu, about 73 students were confirmed missing.

The police spokesperson said that a team of security operatives have been deployed to the area, to search and rescue the students.

The State Commissioner of Police, CP Ayuba N Elkanah, has appealed to general public, parents and relations of the victims, to exercise patience, and continue to pray for the success of the ongoing rescue operation.

Meanwhile, the state governor, Alhaji Bello Matawalle, has ordered for immediate closure of all schools in the state, both primary and secondary. He also imposed curfew in 14 local government areas, in the state. He said the curfew will be from 6:00pm to 6:00 am.
