Anthony Joshua Makes Promise On Retirement If Oleksandr Usyk Beats Him Again

Anthony Joshua insists he not quit if he loses to Oleksandr Usyk in Saturday’s world heavyweight title rematch.

A second defeat to Usyk would be Joshua’s third in five fights and put him at back of the queue for another world title shot.

He was defiant when asked if he would retire if he was beaten again by the undefeated Ukrainian and is adamant he would carry on.

“I’m not thinking about retirement,” said the two-time world heavyweight champ.

“I’ve got one of the biggest fights of my life coming up and if you were thinking about retiring, it would be a massive doubt in your mind.

“People always ask questions. Me, personally, I still want to continue. I love it.”

Joshua, 32, is proud that Saturday be his 12th consecutive world title fight, going back to 2016, and says there is no shame in losing to elite fighters.

“This is my 12th consecutive world title fight and because this is world level, you’re up against world-level quality opponents,” he said.

“This fight is my third against an Olympic gold medalist.

“I’m competing with some of the world’s best pound-for-pound fighters. If I was losing to some has-been, then, yes.

“But it’s crazy to talk about retiring when I lost to one of the best fighters in the world. What sort of nonsense is that?

“I respect people’s opinions, but I don’t want to retire.”

Usyk has warned Joshua he intends to inflict more pain on him on Saturday.

Uysk says world heavyweight title rematch be a continuation of their first fight at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium 11 months ago when he out thought and out boxed Joshua.

The unbeaten world heavyweight king nearly stopped Joshua in the 12th and says he pick up where he left in that fight.

“We learnt about each other in the first fight,” said the unbeaten Ukrainian. “He learnt about me and I learnt about him.

“I don’t think it’s going to be a new bout. The last bout be continued, round 13, round 14, round 15, however long the fight will last.
